After gaining a morale-boosting win at Michaelhouse last weekend, Westville Boys’ High produced an outstanding showing at the Primo Big 10, played at Hilton College on Saturday and Sunday, to lay claim to the prestigious title.
Not only was Westville unbeaten, but they also kept a clean sheet throughout, scoring wins over Maritzburg College (2-0), St Charles (1-0), Kearsney (2-0), Michaelhouse (2-0), Northwood (1-0), and Glenwood, whom they beat in a penalty shootout in the final on Zungu Field after regulation time in the title game finished 0-0. The Griffins took the win 5-4 from the spot.
The final was a repeat of the second term’s Mancosa KZN Coastal A-League title decider, which the Green Machine won 2-1. This time, though, Westville’s defence was impeccable.
It was a near miss for Glenwood, who have produced an outstanding season. Apart from winning the Coastal A-League title, they finished as the runner-up to a superb Urban Academy team at the Kearsney Soccer Tournament before reaching their third final of 2026 at Hilton.
Northwood, who had been on a hot streak, had to settle for third place after a 1-0 win over Maritzburg College in the bronze playoff.
The Knights started strongly, recording wins over DHS (3-1) and the 2025 champion, Hilton College (1-0), but the extremely competitive nature of the event was revealed in their outing when they went down to Clifton (1-2), whom they had beaten 2-0 in a derby fixture the previous weekend.
