While they finished fourth, Boland A and Paul Roos Gimnasium stole the spotlight when the South African Schools team was announced after KZN Coastal A won the SASHOC National Week, beating Western Province A in a penalty shootout in a spectacular final.
KZN teams contributed six players – four from KZN Coastal A and two from KZN Inland A.
Durban High School (DHS) supplied Oyinthanda Ngejane and Chris Abrahams, Northwood‘s Luc Boyall cracked the nod, too, and Clifton College‘s Ryde Brisset, the Player of the Tournament, was also included.
Joining them in the national side were Maritzburg College goalkeeper Viwe Ndlovu and Michaelhouse midfielder Thandanani Zuma.
The team will be coached by Northwood’s Justin Collins.
A word about Brisset. In 2024, when still u16, he represented the SA u17 side at the Dato Mirnawan Cup in Malaysia. In a huge setback, he then missed the entire 2025 field hockey season after undergoing shoulder surgery, but he was alongside the field at every game, supporting his Clifton teammates.
He returned late in the year to help KZN Coastal win the Indoor IPT title and was selected for the SA Schools side. Back on the Astro, in 2026, he led the KZN Coastal team to IPT glory, winning the Player of the Tournament award as his side ended Western Province’s run of five successive titles. That speaks volumes about his talent, but says even more about his strength of character.

Westville Boys’ High captain, Tyhill Naidoo, a star performer in the final, was included in the SA Schools u18 B team, while Andile Lembethe, of Maritzburg College, joined him in the squad.
Hilton College‘s Ben Wilson, a rock at the back and a dangerman at penalty corner time, made the SA u17 side, along with Elchaan Lubbe of DHS and Sbu Mchunu of Maritzburg College.
