Westville Boys’ High, the defending national champion, won the opening round of the Clover High School Sevens Series at Glenwood High on Saturday, escaping a tough challenge from Durban High School (DHS) to win the final 26-24.
DHS roared to a 47-0 win over Glenwood in the U15 competition, but their toughest game, no doubt, was a battling 17-12 win over Westville in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Westville’s U18 Development side was in action at the Werda Sevens, where they did the school’s Sevens’ pedigree proud, scoring wins over Kingsway, Kuswag, Riverwood, Gelofte, Kloof, and Amanzimtoti to lift the title.
The U15 Development 2 side won three and lost two games, bowing out to Gelofte in the semi-finals after a tight 26-28 loss.

INDOOR HOCKEY
While it was a quieter week for most schools in the third week of the KZN Coastal Indoor Hockey League, Westville sides continued to give a good account of themselves.
In the U18 A League, Westville rolled to a 9-0 win over Ashton Ballito, while Westville B narrowly lost to Clifton, going down 5-6.

FOOTBALL
On the football field, two of the season’s best teams met when the 1st sides of Westville and DHS clashed. There was little to separate them, but the Horseflies sneaked a 3-2 win.
The day, though, belonged mostly to Westville. They won 12 games, drew one, and School won three.
The U16As drew 0-0, DHS won the U15A match 3-2, and Westville comfortably won the U14A game by a 3-0 margin.
