St Charles College vs Clifton College

At nearby St Charles College, Saints, who had edged out Maritzburg College 1-0 on Harwin Field a week earlier, repeated that feat in a hard-fought win over Clifton College.

The teams had drawn 1-1 at the Primo Big 10 on 17 August, but this time a goal from Alckmin Simone, just when it appeared that the contest was headed for a goalless draw, won it for St Charles.

Most of the matches were very tight affairs, with little to separate the sides, but the results, in the end, tilted in favour of Saints.

Kearsney College vs Westville Boys’ High

The incredible enthusiasm for football at Kearsney College was again on show when they hosted their neighbours, Westville Boys’ High, on Saturday.

Kearsney played 28 matches against Westville and two against Kloof High, all the way down to the 12th team, who recorded a 2-2 draw with Westville’s 8th side. That was also the score in the 1st team match.

Kearsney captain, Sipho Majiza, playing his final game for the school, gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime. Early in the second half, Westville drew level through Kwenama Hlubi.

The action picked up as the contest drew towards its conclusion and Kaydon Mulder put Kearsney ahead again with a powerful header. Westville, however, conjured up a late equaliser through their captain Joel Munemo.

Kearsney had the ball in the back of the net just before the final whistle, but the referee disallowed the effort because of a foul that had been committed in the build-up.

Westville did well in the A-team matches, but Kearsney impressed with their strength in depth.
