A number of KwaZulu-Natal’s leading boys’ schools were in action at the Nomads Hockey Festival for 1st teams, played at Grey High School in Gqeberha from 31 March to 3 April.
Doing the maths quickly, they achieved the following Festival records:
Hilton College: P 5, W 2, D 2, L 1
Maritzburg College: P5, W 2, D 0, L 3
Saint Charles College: P5, W 1, D 2, L 2
Hilton will probably feel they didn’t quite hit their straps, but a 1-1 draw with Wynberg, who went unbeaten throughout the Festival was a good result.
Maritzburg College, after going down to Jeppe, the top dogs at the event, on the second day, handed the hosts, Grey High, their only loss of the Festival, while Saint Charles saved their best result for the last match, recording a 3-1 victory over King Edward VII.
As for the top team, that clearly was Jeppe, who drew with Grey High 1-1 in their first outing, but then beat Grey College 4-0, Maritzburg College 3-1, Saint Charles College 3-0, and Hilton College 2-0. Not too kind to the KZN schools!
