The KZN Inland and KZN Coastal teams produced middling performances at the SASHOC Hockey Week, hosted at Maritzburg College and St Anne’s DSG – finishing ninth and fifth respectively – but three players were rewarded with SA Schools selections, while another four were named in the SA Schools B squad, and five more earned calls-up to the SA u17 squad.
The SA Schools squad included two Hilton College learners – Reagan Mudau and Jayden Roux (feature photo, courtesy Justin Waldman Sports Photography) – and Tyrique Cloete, from Durban High School (DHS).
Those named in the SA Schools B lineup were Robert Burman (Hilton College), Bhavesh Naicker (DHS), Dane Jackson (Maritzburg College), Sithsaba Siyoyo (DHS), and Zach Williamson (Clifton College).
The KZN contingent in the u17 squad included Viwe Ndlovu (Maritzburg College), Keegan de Jager (Kearsney College), Andile Lembethe (Maritzburg College), Siwa Sithembu (Maritzburg College), and Thandanani Zuma (Michaelhouse).
The champions for a fifth year in succession, Western Province, dominated the SA Schools squad, led by SACS, the number one team in the country.
The Defender of the Tournament Josh le Roux, Player of the Tournament, Best striker, and top goal scorer Litha Kraai, Aiden Hughes, Moholdi Maseko, and Reece Theunis, all from SACS, were joined in the squad by Zach Gibbon (Wynberg Boys’ High) and Joe Gitlin (Reddam House Constantia).
The runners-up, Southern Gauteng, provided three players to the SA Schools team: Zeyad Davids (Parktown Boys’ High), the Best Goalkeeper award winner Khotso Mabona (St David’s Marist Inanda), and Matteo Stipcevich (St David’s Marist Inanda).
Northern Gauteng, who placed third overall, had Luken Brunette (Hoerskool Garsfontein), Owen McMennamin (Pretoria Boys’ High), and Kabo Mulaudzi (Pretoria Boys’ High) included in the lineup.
The Midfielder of the Tournament, Christo Swanepoel (Paul Roos Gimnasium), and Neilyandre van Schalkwyk (Grey College), completed the 18-player squad.
