There’s more than a smattering of lifesaving talent to be found among KZN’s top boys’ schools, and the performance of Northwood’s Jack Cobbold at the DHL Lifesaving SA National Championships, which took place in Gqeberha from 30 March to 5 April, was yet more evidence of this.
Jack participated in both the Junior (under-17) and open (19-plus) categories and claimed a number of medals.
He teamed up with Old Cliftonian, Matthew Coetzer, to capture gold in the junior double ski. Then, together with Matthew and Northwood Old Boy, Brayden Bergset, he claimed a bronze medal in the open board relay.
In individual competition, Jack took on 68 other competitors in the junior board race and placed a very commendable eighth.
Coetzer, meanwhile, picked up a second gold medal in the open board race.
Earlier this year, Northwood’s Jake Jones excelled at the KZN Nipper Championships, winning the Iron Nipper Award, while competitors from Clifton, DHS and Kearsney delivered outstanding performances at the KZN Lifesaving Champs.
