Old Hiltonian’s leadership recognised at Notre Dame College

Old Hiltonian Fadzai Mushonga (McKenzie, 2017) was recently honoured by Notre Dame College (Ohio, USA) for his services to the institution, receiving a Presidential Leadership Award.

According to Notre Dame, “The Presidential Award program is designed to provide a special and unique opportunity to publicly recognise individuals who exemplify the University’s core values through four types of awards: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Achievement, Values and Leadership.

“The Presidential Leadership Award recognises a regular, exempt or non-exempt staff supervisor for outstanding servant leadership”.

The criteria for the award state that nominees should “demonstrate and live the principles of servant leadership”. They further say that a nominee’s individual performance should be exemplary.

Mushonga entered Notre Dame College, a top 20 national research institute, in 2019 on both an academic scholarship and a rugby scholarship.

Outside of the classroom, he has excelled on the rugby field, competing at the NCAA Rugby Nationals in 2022, and also making the Rugby East Conference First Team, the only player from Notre Dame to achieve that feat.

His leadership roles at the college have included the orientation of freshmen and student work in the Admissions Office.

Mushonga is set to graduate in May 2023.
