1 September 2026

Durban High School (DHS) enjoyed a week of rich pickings, winning two KZN Coastal Indoor Hockey League titles and two Clover High Schools Sevens Series titles on their own Izak van Heerden Field. They also had the better of Clifton College in their football derby.

RUGBY SEVENS

The Horseflies were the class of the field in the U17 and U15 sections of the DHS Sevens, with the 1st team dispatching the Glenwood and Pionier Sevens champion, Westville Boys’ High, comfortably in the semi-finals. They led only 12-10 at halftime but surged clear to win 36-15.

It was all DHS in the final as they overpowered Glenwood High 39-0.

Speaking of power, it was DHS A versus DHS B in the U15 final, with the A side scoring a tough 24-19 victory over the B team.

DHS B did themselves proud, beating Northwood U15A, St Charles U15A, Glenwood U15A, and Maritzburg College U15A on their way to the final.

INDOOR HOCKEY

DHS also shone in the finals of the KZN Coastal Indoor Hockey Leagues, winning the U14 and U18 titles, while Clifton College suffered a shock defeat to Kearsney College in the semi-finals.

While Clifton fell 1-3 against Kearsney, DHS edged out Northwood 6-5 and went on to beat Kearsney 5-2 to lift the title.

In the extremely competitive U14 competition, DHS showed their BMT, beating Glenwood 5-4 in the semifinals before taking the title with a 4-2 win over Westville.

FOOTBALL

At the Riverside Sports Club, the day belonged to DHS as they enjoyed the better of the results against Clifton when the schools met in 15 football games. In a tight 1st XI match, the visitors claimed a narrow 1-0 win.
