Michaelhouse boys travelled far and wide over the weekend to compete in hockey, rugby sevens, squash, and football, contesting some of the country’s biggest events while also hosting their arch-rival, Hilton College, for a football derby.
HOCKEY
The U16A hockey side was in action in the Top Schools Tournament, hosted by Paarl Gimnasium, where they went head-to-head against the best U16 sides from across the country.
They performed strongly, compiling a record of three wins, two draws, and two losses. Their results included a convincing 3-0 victory over the eventual runner-up, St Andrew’s School.
In the end, Michaelhouse finished seventh overall. James Buys, with seven goals, was the event’s top goal scorer, while Hayden Ravenscroft, with five, was the third-highest scorer.

SQUASH
Michaelhouse represented KwaZulu-Natal at the annual Top Schools Squash Tournament in Pietermaritzburg, taking on the provincial champions from around South Africa.
‘House was drawn in Section 2, where they faced St Andrew’s School, Rondebosch Boys’ High, and Grey High, a very tough draw.
The Bloemfontein school went on to win the title, with ‘Bosch in second, and Grey High, one of the country’s traditional powers, finished sixth overall, with Michaelhouse in seventh place.
They were well beaten by both St Andrew’s School and Rondebosch and put up a good fight against Grey in a loss. In the fifth to eighth place playoffs, they recorded a loss to St John’s College and a win over York High. Their result against Grey High was carried forward into the playoffs.

‘House‘s rugby sevens teams visited St Stithians, in Johannesburg, where the u17A team was undefeated, the u15A side lost only one match, and the u15B was held to a draw while winning their other two games.

FOOTBALL
At the St David’s Marist Inanda Challenge Cup, facing tough competition, Michaelhouse teams, competing in the u19 Challenge Cup and u15 sections, produced some good results.
The 1st team won three and lost three, with their record including a 1-0 win over Hilton College, while the u15A side won three, drew one, and lost one.
