When Michaelhouse faced Kearsney College in the Skweyiya SportZone on Saturday, the visitors might have thought they were on the way to a comfortable win after they led 12-5 at the end of the first quarter.
Kearsney, though, came firing back and outscored ‘House 25-14 in the second quarter to head into halftime with a 30-26 lead.
After the break, the momentum swung the other way, with Michaelhouse winning the third quarter 23-15, which left the Balgowan boys with a 49-45 lead, with one quarter to go.
There was nothing in it. When Kearsney sneaked in front, leading 63-60, it appeared as if they had done enough, but ‘House drained a three pointer to force overtime at 63-63.
Still, next to nothing separated the sides, but Michaelhouse picked up a tight 66-65 win away from home.
Unfortunately, many games, which were scheduled for outside courts, were cancelled because of rain.
Overall, Kearsney scored six wins, while Michaelhouse won three matches.

WATER POLO
The Kearsney 1st team scored an emphatic 10-4 win over a Michaelhouse team that has performed well in 2026. That result suggests that coach Nic Rodda and his charges are hitting their straps in time for the KES Water Polo Tournament, where they will tackle many of the country’s best teams.
A 9-9 draw with Northwood in the Kearsney Night Series showed, though, that consistency will be key if Kearsney is to make a splash in Johannesburg.
