RUGBY
The Sharks delivered a devastating beatdown of Western Province in the final of the Grant Khomo Week, thrilling spectators with their creative and exciting play.
Among the standouts were three Kearsney College boys – Tunga Griffiths, Daniel Miskey, and Clement Makelele – and their excellence was recently recognised when they were included in the SA Rugby Union’s Early Player Development (EPD) Programme.
They’ll attend a camp in Paarl in October.

The Kearsney 1st XI was away in Zimbabwe at the St John’s Rams T20, where they lost only one match, but the timing was bad, and they missed out on the semi-finals. That meant there was no 1st XI clash with Maritzburg College.

BASKETBALL
Maritzburg College escaped an upset bid by Kearsney in the Alan Paton Memorial Hall and Multi-Purpose Centre on Saturday, holding on for a hard-fought 54-52 win after a contest of fluctuating fortunes.
College opened up a convincing 17-10 lead in the first quarter, keeping Kearsney off balance with an energetic defensive effort. The Botha’s Hill boys, however, clawed their way back into the contest in the second quarter, drawing to within a point at 24-25.
They continued to build on that strong showing in the third quarter and edged ahead, taking a 39-35 lead into the last quarter.
With three minutes remaining, though, only three points separated the sides. In the end. the difference was a couple of missed free throws from Kearsney and College sinking a tough lay-up as The Red, Black, and White triumphed 54-52.
College’s Carl Fynn was the leading scorer with 14 points, while Kwakuhle Sibiya led the way for Kearsney with 13, and Pabatso Sithole dropped 12 points for the visitors.
