Westville playing for four W100 titles, finals fixtures

26 February 2024

In an outstanding achievement for the school, Westville Boys’ High has qualified for all four finals of the W100 competition – u14, u15, u16 and 1st team – with their u14, u15 and u16 teams all finishing top of the standings, and the 1st team finishing behind Kearsney College.

Overall, Westville’s teams produced a superb record of 17 wins from 20 matches. Their reward is an opportunity to play for a remarkable four titles.

The Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium will play host to the last round of u19 matches and the u14 final on Wednesday.

The action begins at 10:00, when Glenwood and Northwood play for 5th and 6th. It’s an interesting clash because both teams have hit their best form in recent weeks and they’re playing very good cricket.

At 13:00, Clifton College and DHS do battle for third place, with Clifton having played an awful lot of cricket recently – at the Clifton T20, and, most recently, at the Independent Schools Cricket Festival (ISCF). There, they wrapped up the event with a T20 win over Uplands College, but their other matches were all limited overs games, so they’ll need to adjust their approach to the much shorter format.

It’s Westville vs Kearsney in the u14 final. Kearsney comes into the title-decider in good form, having beaten both Hilton and Michaelhouse over the weekend, while Westville accounted for Glenwood.

There’s a repeat of the match-up of the neighbours in the 1st XI final, at 19:00. Kearsney College, after a superb showing at the ISCF, go into the contest as the favourites. They’ve enjoyed a very good term.

Westville hasn’t been as consistent, but they’re blessed with a number of potential match-winners, both with bat and ball, and it’s hard to predict outcomes in the W100 game. More than in any other format, one player can make all the difference.

In the u14 age group, the playoff for fifth and sixth takes place at DHS at 15:00, with School facing Clifton College. Third and fourth features Glenwood and Northwood at Glenwood, starting at 15:00.

Glenwood also hosts the u15 fifth and sixth place game at 15:00, with Clifton the hosts of the third and fourth playoff, featuring Clifton and Kearsney. They’re also in for a 15:00 start.

The u15 final takes place at Westville, with the Griffin facing Northwood. The start time, again, is 15:00.

Clifton is the venue for the fifth and sixth playoff in the u16 age group, featuring Clifton and Glenwood, while DHS hosts the third and fourth clash between DHS and Kearsney. The final will be at Westville, who tackle Northwood for the title.

All three games start at 15:00.
