Matthew Gouws shines for Kearsney on golf tour

While many of their fellow students headed home for the long weekend, Kearsney’s young golfers visited the Eastern Cape to participate in the Grey High School Junior Links Festival.

Up against some stiff competition in the team event, Kearsney finished in seventh position, but had reason to celebrate after Matthew Gouws enjoyed a superb outing, placing second in the individual competition.

Top golfers

Kearsney has produced some outstanding golfers in recent years. In 2022, after Julian Daws captained the KZN A team to victory in the SA Schools team event, he was selected for the SA Schools team.

Fellow Kearsney students Matthew Gouws and Reece Brown were also members of the winning KZN A team.

Furthermore, Kearsney College lifted two big trophies last year: the Durban and District Golf A League trophy and the KZN Schools Team Championship Trophy.

More recently, old boy Martin Rohwer, qualified for The Open Championship for the first time.

He’s a two-time winner on the Sunshine Tour, with victories in the Investec Royal Swazi Open in 2019 and the Vodacom Origins Final in 2022.
