KZN Coastal cricket sides announced

3 November 2026

Six players who were in action at last year’s Khaya Majola Week have earned another opportunity to showcase their talents at the national tournament in Stellenbosch in December.

Durban High School (DHS) is the biggest contributor to the Khaya Majola Week squad, with four players selected. Those four all played in the 2025 event in Bloemfontein.

Three of them – Josh van Biljon, Ismaeel Omar, and Bonga Maphanga – were part of the KZN Coastal side, while Taine Havermann turned out for the CSA Invitation team, which enjoyed a very strong showing.

Reliable top-order batsmen Van Biljon and Omar have been cornerstones of DHS’s batting for the past three years, while Maphanga is a fast-bowling all-rounder, who, as a lower-order batsman, often adds late runs at a fast run-scoring rate. Havermann is a seam-bowling all-rounder and usually bats in the middle order.

Van Biljon, a wicketkeeper, is highly regarded, as evidenced by his selection for the SA U19 team that beat England in a Youth Test Series in England in July. He was one of South Africa’s top performers, finishing as the team’s second-highest run-scorer with 233 runs at an average of 58.25.

Four schools contribute two players apiece.

Clifton College‘s duo comprises another wicketkeeper-batsman, Daniyaal Klinck, a left-hander, who typically opens the batting, and leg-spinner Shiraz Perumal, who offers useful batting ability in the lower order.

While taking on more batting responsibility this year, Perumal was unable to match his phenomenal season with the ball in 2025, during which he claimed a sensational 95 wickets for the Clifton 1st XI. However, in the right conditions, he is a match-winner.

Glenwood High provides Kamo Moloto, a regular opening batsman, and off-spinner Esihle Gasa, who usually bowls economically while picking up wickets. Both represented KZN Coastal U16 last year.

Westville’s representatives are two all-rounders with contrasting strengths. Kyle McGough is a top-order batsman and front-line bowler. He hits the ball hard while batting and the bat hard while bowling. Aarin Rasmussen bats in the middle order and offers accurate medium-pace bowling.

McGough represented the KZN Coastal U17 team last year, but Rasmussen was overlooked for provincial selection. His inclusion is just reward for a consistently strong run of performances throughout 2026.

Kearsney College also has two players in the squad. Left-arm fast bowler Litha Gonya, who is blessed with a silky-smooth action, is the sixth member of the group to return to the Khaya Majola Week.

He is joined by his Kearsney captain, Keegan de Jager (feature photo), who recently became the Botha’s Hill school’s most-capped 1st XI player of all time when he made his 105th appearance. De Jager represented KZN Coastal U17 last year.

Northwood‘s David de Bruyn completes the line-up. Usually batting at number three, although he sometimes opens, De Bruyn has been a prolific contributor for the Knights, combining an appetite for runs with an ability to score at a healthy rate. Just last weekend, he led Northwood to victory at Glenwood with a century.
