Northwood stole the spotlight in week three of the U18A competition of the KZN Coastal Indoor Hockey League, claiming two big scalps.
In a showdown between two sides that have established themselves as title contenders, the Knights edged out a strong Clifton College outfit 4-3. Then, they beat DHS, another top team, 7-4.
All three sides, though, were missing some players who were on duty for the SA u18 side at the U21 Inter-Provincial Tournament, which could make a meaningful impact if they meet in the playoffs.
Clifton, after their loss to Northwood, rebounded with a tight 6-5 win over Westville B. Interestingly, they beat Westville A 6-0 the previous week, which shows how much their captain, Ryde Brisset, one of those SA u18 players, means to their team.
DHS also won in their other outing, beating Glenwood 6-2, while Kearsney comfortably handled Ashton Ballito, winning 5-1 (feature photo: Dylan Forbes vs Ashton by Tamlyn Gabin), and Westville blanked Ashton 9-0.
In the U16A League, DHS beat Clifton 6-2 but then played to an unusual 0-0 draw with Kearsney.
School also picked up two wins in the U14A League, sneaking past Clifton 2-1 and outplaying Ashton 8-0. Glenwood also recorded two victories, beating Ashton 4-0 and Kearsney 3-2.
