It’s not an occasional or fringe activity for Kearsney College learners to compete in national Olympiads. It’s also not an occasional occurrence that they excel in those challenges. Recent results matched the school’s established excellence on the national stage.
In Mathematics, one grade eight boy and three grade nine boys – Suhrit Pitchaimuthu, Jack Ferreira, Blake Gaines, and Norman Schroeder (feature photo) – qualified for the final round of the Maths Olympiad, which began with 120 000 learners participating in the first round.
In the Economics Olympiad, Asemahle Madlala achieved an impressive 87 percent in the first round and qualified for the second round.
Thomas Blomfield and Liam Botha achieved gold for finishing in the top five percent nationally in the History Olympiad. Misa Buthelezi won silver for placing in the top 10 percent, while Aaron Huson and Christopher Oellermann received bronze for a top 15 percent finish.
An impressive 10 boys placed within the top 15 percent of the Geography Olympiad. Christiaan Venter led the way, winning gold for his top-five percent result.
Connor van Heerden and Sethembele Cindi received silver for finishing in the top 10 percent, while James Whatmore, Jack Sternberg, Ross Prinsloo, Sebastian Hunwick, Joshua Lobban, Yusuf Badat, and Ethan King earned bronze for their top 15 percent results.
In the Afrikaans Olympiad, Joshua Snyman placed in the top 20 in KwaZulu-Natal and the top 100 nationally.
