Maritzburg College, Westville Boys’ High, and Durban High School (DHS) met in a triangular series of 100-ball matches over the weekend, with each school walking away with a victory.

DHS vs Maritzburg College

DHS opened their campaign with a comfortable win over College, built on a strong top-order effort and a decisive bowling display.

Batting first, School posted 139/4, thanks largely to an unbeaten half-century from Josh van Biljon, who struck 56 from just 28 deliveries, including six fours and three sixes. Earlier, Ismaeel Omar (25) and Ethan Cooper (38) had laid the platform with a 59-run stand for the first wicket.

For College, Dom du Toit impressed with the ball, returning 2/25 in his 20 deliveries, while Karl Dedekind was miserly, conceding only seven runs in his 10.

College’s run chase never quite settled. Despite cameos from captain Daniel Nadasan (24) and a brisk 28 from Du Toit, wickets fell regularly. DHS bowlers Ethan Cooper (4/12) and J Matthews (3/24) shared the spoils, dismissing College for 117 with five balls unused.

Maritzburg College vs Westville Boys’ High

On Sunday, Maritzburg College bounced back strongly, comfortably defeating hosts Westville.

Sent out to bat, Westville slipped to 40/4 inside eight overs before Tristan Delvin (47*) and Heath Stott (31*) staged a recovery, adding 75 runs in 52 balls. Still, 115/4 always looked a little light.

Nathan Pembridge was the chief destroyer with the ball for College, removing the dangerous Seth Simpson for just two on his way to figures of 2/18.

College stumbled early in their reply, losing openers Nadasan and Kyle de Bruyn cheaply to Lwandile Bulose (2/11). But Karl Dedekind played the match-winning hand, smashing 62* from 33 balls, including four sixes and six fours.

With Deolyn Naidoo providing steady support (34* off 25), the pair put on 99 from 55 balls to take College to an emphatic eight-wicket win with 27 balls to spare.

Westville Boys’ High vs DHS

Westville ensured all three schools finished with a win by overcoming DHS, thanks to a superb innings from their skipper.

Seth Simpson played a captain’s knock of the highest order, blasting an unbeaten 96 to power Westville to 180/3, the biggest total of the weekend.

Chasing, DHS kept within reach but couldn’t quite break free, finishing on 155/6. Misbah Nair turned in an outstanding bowling performance, claiming 4/13 to halt any late charge and secure a 25-run win for the home side.
