Clifton College gave St Charles fits in the first half of the clash on Old Orchards on Saturday, with a try just before halftime by the visitors leaving the hosts only 12-5 ahead. In the second half, though, Saints came on strongly to pull well clear, powering their way to a convincing 52-10 victory.
When the teams met at the Sharks’ Schools Rugby Day, Clifton trailed only 14-19 at halftime, but St Charles went on to a 47-14 win. It was more of the same on Saturday, unfortunately for the Durban boys.
Eben Crafford crossed for two tries for Saints, while Raphael Ajibade, Matthew Ludick, Braydon Joese, Carl Chekera, Dresden Coetzee, and Likuthi Mbalana (shown in the superb feature photo by Justin Waldman Sports Photography) also crossed for tries.
It was close early in the second half. When Devan Schwartz bulldozed his way over for Clifton’s second, and his second of the game, it brought the score to 10-19, but after that the momentum firmly flipped in favour of the home side.

While the results went the way of St Charles, perhaps the most surprising one was their convincing victory in the u15A game. When the teams met at the Sharks’ Schools Rugby Day, Clifton took the win, but Saints put daylight between them and the boys in black and white on Saturday.
