The Northwood Knights were in Kimberley at the Absa Wildeklawer tournament, where they did themselves proud, which meant there would be no showdown with the Kearsney’s ascending One-Stripe, on Saturday.

That left the Northwood 2nd XV and Kearsney 2nd XV to headline Saturday’s slate on Reece-Edwards Field, and they did a fine job, playing to a thrilling 26-26 draw.

Meanwhile, in their opening match, in Kimberley, Northwood gave Paarl Gimnasium, in the eyes of many the top team in the country in 2025, a good workout, going down 20-46. Notably, they had the big Gim pack in reverse in the set scrums at times.

They scored a hard-fought 19-12 win over HTS Drostdy in their second outing.

Competition between the schools was tight, with Northwood claiming eight wins and Kearsney five, while two matches ended in draws.

Kearsney fared slightly better in the open and u16 age groups, while Northwood had the better of the u15 and u16 matches. The visitors picked up the u16A and u14A wins, with the home side cruising to victory in the 15A clash.
