On Stott Field, Cameron Veenstra slotted a penalty for the Kearsney College 1st XV right on half-time, which meant the One-Stripe turned 19 points down against Northwood, at 3-22. Matters looked bleak for the hosts.
However, a stirring second half fightback brought some respectability to the scoreline, with Kearsney winning it 21-12. Still, the Knights had done the hard work in the first half, and they recorded a comfortable 34-24 victory.
Kearsney fared well in the lower reaches of the open age group and ended up winning four games to the three of Northwood, but the visitors ruled the u16 and u15 age groups, including winning both A team matches.
Kearsney ran away with the u14A game, but Northwood picked up two more wins in the other u14 matches.

When heavy mist descended on the Mason Astro at Kearsney on Friday evening, it was suggested to the two 1st XIs that they might want to postpone the game. No, they were adamant, they wanted to play. It made for an interesting contest, with the coaches, on the side, unable to see a lot of the play.
Northwood took an early lead, scrambling the goal over the line after a scrappy period of play, but Kearsney found an equaliser through their outstanding captain, Matt De Oliveira, who scored three minutes from time to rescue a draw for the home team.
The results, though, tipped in Northwood’s favour. In fact, they didn’t taste defeat at all.
Four games were drawn, while Northwood picked up eight wins. Half of them were by only one goal and three were by two.
