DHS 1st XI triumphs at Michaelhouse, House wins basketball

18 October 2026

Durban High School (DHS) bounced back emphatically from an 80-run defeat to Michaelhouse in Friday evening’s Eston One Insurance T20 Night League final, piling up 329/5 in a limited-overs clash before cruising to a 93-run victory on Saturday at the Roy Gathorne Oval.

DHS dismantled an attack that had dominated them the previous evening. At the heart of their impressive batting display were three outstanding performances, led by captain Josh van Biljon and Ismaeel Omar, who both struck centuries.

Omar and Shaun Stumke laid the foundation with a commanding 121-run partnership for the second wicket, taking the game to Michaelhouse’s bowlers. Stumke contributed a well-crafted 51 from 70 deliveries, striking five fours and a six, before departing.

Omar continued to prosper, combining with Van Biljon for a 119-run third-wicket stand from 127 balls. The former was in no hurry, facing 130 deliveries for 107, with 11 fours and two sixes.

Van Biljon, meanwhile, took a more aggressive approach, plundering nine fours and six sixes in a blistering 112 from only 79 balls.

Bonga Maphanga added a late flourish, smashing four sixes in an unbeaten 31 from just 13 deliveries as DHS finished with a formidable total.

Michaelhouse’s bowlers endured a difficult afternoon, although Ben Heuer returned a respectable 2/49 from 10 overs, while Liam O’Dwyer claimed 1/40 from his 10 overs.

The hosts needed a substantial contribution in reply, and captain Graydon Leslie did his best to keep them in contention. He struck nine fours and a six in a 61-ball 56, but lacked the support required to threaten the Horseflies‘ imposing target.

Still, Riley Muir made 45, Nishay Sudhoowa added 28, and Heuer chipped in with 23, but they needed more. House‘s challenge ended in the 43rd over, when they were all out for 236.

Maphanga was the destroyer-in-chief, knocking over 5/33 from 8.1 overs, while Cody Buys also played his part, claiming 2/40.
