CRICKET
Kearsney College and Hilton College met in the Eston T20 Tournament on Wednesday, with Hilton scoring a five-wicket victory with nine balls in hand.
The Botha’s Hill boys batted first after Keegan de Jager won the toss, and the skipper and Asher Hollister led their batting effort, with only Matthew Rice, with 13 not out, joining them in double figures.
Together, they added 75 runs for the second wicket from 68 balls before De Jager was out for 40 from 43 deliveries, which included two fours and a six.
Hollister, who opened the innings, was eventually the sixth man out in the 18th over. He had hit five fours and two sixes, and totalled 59 from only 45 balls, helping Kearsney to 127/8.
Obakeng Motsepa and Sean Burman were the picks of the Hilton bowlers, snapping up 3/25 in four and 2/16 in four, respectively.
Hilton’s top order then laid the foundation for their victory. They lost Barack Munawa early for two, but Sean Burman and Ben Wilson then added 26 for the second wicket in 21 balls before Burman fell – caught Litha Gonya, bowled Ryan Staats – for 26 from 17 deliveries.
Obakeng Motsepa joined Wilson in the middle, and they continued the steady rate of scoring, adding 51 from eight overs before Matthew Gorrie bowled Motsepa for 27. He had faced 30 balls and struck two fours and a six.
Wilson saw two more partners depart before he steered Hilton College across the finishing line in the second-last over. He was 51 not out, with four fours to his name.
Matthew Rice, Blake Pugh, Matthew Gorrie, and Rivaan Moodley picked up a wicket each.

FOOTBALL
It’s been a good football season for Kearsney College. They started it later than some others, who played in the second term’s KZN Coastal League, including Northwood, but Kearsney’s results have been solid.
On Saturday, they had the Knights‘ number, recording a 2-0 win over a side that had beaten Durban High School (DHS) 1-0 earlier in the week.
Northwood won a fantastic U16A match by a narrow 3-2 margin. Kearsney took the U15A honours 2-0, and Northwood scored a clear-cut 3-0 victory in the U14A game.
Competition in the U16 age group was wild. Kearsney won the U16C game 9-5! They also won the U16D match 7-3 and the U16E clash 7-1.
There was another cracking game between the U14E sides, with Northwood triumphing 5-4.
Overall, Kearsney recorded 14 wins, Northwood won eight games, and only one match ended in a draw.
