While some schools still have rugby derbies to play early in the third term, others played their first football derbies on the weekend.
The Durban High School (DHS) 1st XI, the runner-up in the Kloof High National Football Tournament and Plate winner at the Kearsney Soccer Tournament, hosted Jeppe High School for Boys, who won five out of five at the Association of Public Boys’ Schools of South Africa Festival at Pretoria Boys High during the mid-year holiday.
Jeppe continued their winning ways, claiming a 3-1 win.
At Northwood, the Knights, who also went a perfect five for five at the APBSA Festival, defeated Clifton College, who were coming off a strong fifth-place finish at the Kearsney Soccer Tournament, by two goals to nil.
Kearsney College and Hilton College shared the spoils on Zungu Field, drawing 1-1, while Westville Boys’ High edged out Michaelhouse 3-2 in Balgowan.
The football intensity will rise on the coming weekend when Hilton College hosts the Primo Big 10 on Saturday, 1 August, and Sunday, 2 August.
