Michaelhouse proved to be a handful for Durban High School (DHS) on Saturday, 14 March, pushing them all the way on Van Heerden’s Field in Durban before going down 20-26. On Saturday, playing on Baileys, in Balgowan, they had Northwood‘s number, scoring a 28-14 win over the Knights.

For those players who were part of the same fixture last year, which was played in Durban, the victory would have brought them particular satisfaction. In 2025, after ‘House had led almost the entire game, Northwood snatched victory with the last kick of the contest. That painful setback set the stage for a season of near-misses for Michaelhouse.

Michaelhouse owned the open age group, sweeping their seven games against Northwood, and they went four of five in the u16 matches, including a big 35-point win for their u16A side.

Northwood returned the favour at u15 level, with their u15A team winning by 33 points. Overall, though, the schools settled for two wins apiece in that age group.

The Durban school took three of four u14 victories, including a tight three-point victory in the clash of the u14A sides.

Overall, Michaelhouse won 13 matches, and Northwood won six.
