DHS overpowers Northwood, Glenwood wins at Westville

21 September 2025

Durban High School (DHS), fresh from their triumph in the Eston One Insurance T20 Night League, added to a growing list of impressive results with a commanding nine-wicket win over Northwood on the Theobald Oval on Saturday in a match reduced to 36 overs a side.

After DHS captain Bayanda Majola won the toss and opted to field, the visitors quickly found themselves under pressure. Top-order batsmen David de Bruyn, Tuswa Phetha, and Ross McGlashan fell cheaply, leaving the Knights reeling on 36/3 by the ninth over.

It took a captain’s effort from Kyle White, ably supported by Jamie Wimble, to steady the innings. Together, the pair added 97 for the fourth wicket before Sulaimaan Jadwat struck, trapping White LBW for a well-played 56 from 65 deliveries, which included seven boundaries.

Wimble fell agonisingly short of a fifty, dismissed for 49 off 76, and late-order cameos from Thomas Oosthuizen (23 off 14) and Josh Mills (21 off 15) lifted Northwood to 195/6.

For DHS, Taine Havermann led the way with the ball, bagging 3/35. Skipper Majola claimed 2/47, while left-arm spinner Dhilan Naraidu proved especially effective, giving up just 14 runs from his seven overs to choke the Knights’ scoring.

Chasing 196, DHS relied once more on the consistency of their top three and they delivered, as usual. After an opening stand of 36 between Ismaeel Omar and Ethan Cooper, Omar departed for 21, caught by McGlashan off Keegan Reeves. That was the only breakthrough Northwood managed.

Josh van Biljon (feature photo) joined Cooper and together they shut the door on the visitors. Van Biljon played with the kind of calm authority that is his trademark, mixing crisp stroke play with unflustered composure. His 104 not out came off just 88 deliveries and featured 14 fours.

Cooper, happy to play the supporting role, finished unbeaten on 68 from 86 balls, striking six fours and a six.

Their unbroken 163-run stand carried DHS to victory with 10 balls to spare.

Westville Boys’ High vs Glenwood High

On Bowden’s Field, Glenwood won a low-scoring clash against Westville, with Bandile Mbatha playing a starring role.

Batting first, Glenwood battled their way to 127 all out in 41.4 overs. Opening batsman Karabo Ntsieng stood tall with a stubborn 60 from 110 balls, while no other batsman reached 20. That innings proved to be worth its weight in gold.

Westville’s bowlers shared the spoils, with left-arm spinner Ewan du Toit, the pick of the attack, snaring 4/16 in nine overs. Left-arm seamer Lwandile Bulose chipped in with 2/9, and Kyle McGough returned 2/11 in four.

In reply, Westville faltered early. Du Toit (5) and Sean McGough (2) both fell cheaply, leaving the hosts on the back foot.

Mbatha undermined their run pursuit with a superb return of 5/14, and Westville tumbled to just 91 all out, leaving Glenwood the winners by 36 runs.
